Author’s Information
Professor Emeritus at Keio University and Director of the Mutsumi Imai Educational Research Institute.
She completed his doctoral coursework at Keio University Graduate School in 1989 and received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Northwestern University in 1994. After serving as a professor at the Faculty of Environment and Information Studies, Keio University, she assumed her current position in April 2025. Her specialties are cognitive science, psycholinguistics, and developmental psychology. Her major works include "Cognitive Psychology for Correctly Facing Life's Big Problems" (Nikkei Premier Series), "Why Does 'No Matter How Many Times I Explain It, It Doesn't Get Through' Occur?" (Nikkei Business Publications, Inc.), "Loss of Academic Ability," "Self-Study Methods for English," "What is Learning?", "Language and Thought" (all Iwanami Shinsho), and "Unraveling the Mystery of Language Development" (Chikuma Primer Shinsho). Her co-authored works include "The Essence of Language" (Chuko Shinsho / Winner of the "Shinsho Taisho 2024" Grand Prize), "Children Who Cannot Solve Math Word Problems" (Iwanami Shoten), and "The Mechanism of Learning Words" (Chikuma Gakugei Bunko). Fellow of the International Cognitive Science Society and the Japanese Cognitive Science Society.
